RAA Liaison Letter 2025/2026 Edition 25 the Artillery Modernisation Plan, which informed the development of Force Structure Plan 2020, and led to the most significant reinvestment to date in Defence’s artillery capabilities. This on top of being responsible for the approval and oversight of over 20 Major Projects across the Joint Fires, Air and Missile Defence, and Engineering domains. He also led Defence’s remediation of CBRN, EOD, CUAS and Military Working Dog capabilities. In recognition of his time as Commanding Officer JPEU, SO1 Joint Fires – Army, and Director Land Combat Support Program, he was recognised in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours List as a member of the Order of Australia (AM). In 2024, after a year at Defence and Strategic Studies Course (DSSC), he was promoted into the role of DG Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Land Branch, where he is responsible for the Land Explosive Ordnance System Program Office (LEOPSO), Precision Strike Missile (PrSM); and GWEO02 Test and Evaluation Equipment Acquisition and Sustainment System Program Office (GWEO02 T&E E SPO). Regimental Master Gunner Warrant Officer Class One Anthony Charles To all Gunners past and present Happy New Year. 2026 is set to be another fruitful and busy year with the continued surge in capability introduction and the pay, trade, training requirements that come with it. As such I am truly humbled and honoured to be the RMG of the RAA and committing myself to the continued success of the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery through my service to you all. 2025 started at a rapid pace and ended in a sprint with the RAA community at full speed in the close battle with the multitude of trade and capability growing pains, but we couldn’t be happier with the current situation. The current status of the Regiments at this point in time see them all providing outstanding support to the ADF, partners, civil community and the Coalition in every aspect of Gunnery being OS, AMD, STA, LRF, Targeting, Tactical, Operational and Strategic HQ’s and planning. The Regiment’s current breakdown are: • 1 REGT – Towed (Motorised) with three M777A2, CSS and OP SPT Batteries • 4 REGT – Mechanised (towed and SPH) with an O/P, CSS, OP SPT, two M777A2 and one SPH AS9/AS10 SPH (IIS Trials) Batteries. • 8/12 REGT Towed (Littoral) with an O/P, CSS, OP SPT and two M777A2 Batteries. • 9 REGT with seven Batteries Australia wide providing outstanding sustained civil and military support in the fields of SUAS and OP work along with a multitude of other nationally important tasks. • 14 REGT (LRF) as of January 2026 with one Battery (54 BTY), soon to be three Batteries of M142 HIMARS (IIS and Trials), it truly has achieved some amazing and extremely significant outcomes at a rapid pace throughout 2025. • 16 REGT Air and Missile Defence with OP SPT, CSS and two ENASAMS and CEA Radar equipped Batteries. • 20 REGT TUAS with a CSS, OP SPT and three TUAS (Final stages of FOC) batteries. SOARTY’s HQ, Standards, NETT, JFW, STA, AMD, SP, RDS and of course 53 Battery had one of its busiest years to date with an inflow of IETs not seen in years surging the throughput of IETs to REGTs at just under 400 Soldiers for the year not counting career courses. The introduction of the recruit to segment scheme greatly enhancing IET output to critical areas. 10 Brigade (Fires), through a whirlwind of activity and rapid growth the BDE has established itself at every level of Command, planning and warfighting within the ADF and wider Coalition community. The end of 2025 saw one key player within the Land Combat Faculty – Joint Fires Cell move on leaving a large void that required some serious filling. So it is with our deepest thanks that we farewell CAPT A Kale (SO3) and wish him all the very best in his new position within 9 REGT RAA.
