RAA Liaison Letter 2025/2026 Edition 24 So successful have the exchanges been to the UK, that 2026 marks the first time we will be hosting UK members in a reciprocal arrangement. I would also like to acknowledge the great work BRIG Hill has delivered over his tenure as HOR, supporting the many initiatives referenced above, and the big shoes he has left for me to fill. I extend my best wishes to him and Katrina as he takes up his new appointment as DA in India at this strategically sensitive time. Looking to the rest of this year, my commitment to you is to engage, listen, and learn. I have visited the School for a series of in-briefs and was considerably impressed by both the standard of professionalism on display and the preparations already undertaken to realise the full potential of the new capabilities being fielded. I have also visited 54 Bty 9 Regt, and I look forward to going out field with them in June. Over the year ahead, I intend to visit as many units and associations as possible. Lastly, I would like to recognise the daily support I receive in undertaking this new role from the RMG and DHOR. I will also be working closely with both the RCC and Brigadier Corey Shillabeer in his capacity as assistant HOR, particularly on operational and employment matters relating to the RAA. The HOR cell involves a considerable amount of behind-thescenes work, and a special shout goes to Majors Down and Brennan who have assisted me with the transition, and for the many years of work they have dedicated to supporting the role and the wider RAA community. We would be lost without them. Ubique, Biography Brigadier Langford has held an array of regimental appointments within the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery including as the Liaison Officer to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2000. In 2004, he was posted as the SO2 Offensive Support with the Force Development Group He was primarily responsible for assisting with the development of the RAA structures for the formation of the Hardened and Networked Army. In 2005, he completed the Australian Technical Staff Officers Courses and a Master of Management Studies (Defence Capability Development and Acquisition) through the University of New South Wales (UNSW). In 2006 at Land Development Branch, Capability Development Group, his projects were associated with Explosive Ordnance war stock replenishment, medium artillery ammunition and platform replacements. Having completed further studies at Shrivenham in the UK. Brigadier Langford was appointed Officer Commanding Proof and Experimental Establishment Port Wakefield in 2007. He led the Sub-Unit during a significant organisational restructure from review to implementation. Brigadier Langford completed Australian Command and Staff College in 2009 and a Master of Arts (Strategy and Policy) through UNSW. In 2010, as the SO2 Army Objective Force Concepts (AOF) within Force Development Group, he was the chief architect of the AOF 2030, which achieved Chief of Army Senior Advisory Committee endorsement in December 2010, and for which he was awarded a Two Star commendation from Head Modernisation and Strategic Planning – Army. On promotion to Lieutenant Colonel he led the acquisitions cell within Armaments System Program Office in Defence Materiel Organisation where he was responsible for two major Land projects and several minor projects. At the end of his tenure, he completed an operational deployment to the Middle East and Afghanistan as the Operations Analyst lead within Headquarters Combined Joint Task Force 633. As the leader of a team of military officers and Defence Science and Technology Group scientists, he was responsible for the quarterly reporting to Chief Joint Operations / National Security Committee of Cabinet on the effectiveness of operations in the Middle East. During this deployment, he also completed a major assessment on the effectiveness of detainee operations for CJTF633 and mentor / mentee relationships for Commander 205 Coalition Advisory Team. On returning to Australia, Brigadier Langford assumed command of the Joint Proof and Experimental Unit (JPEU). A career highlight he took the Unit from targeted surveillance, with the threat of losing its Defence engineering accreditation, to achieving world benchmark National Association of Testing Authorities accreditation in the space of three years. Post Command, Brigadier Langford’s most significant achievement as the SO1 Joint Fires – Army and Director Land Combat Support Program (from 2019), within Army Headquarters, was the development of
