RAA Liaison Letter 2025/2026 Edition 23 When gunners are the focus, it is usually a time where our world is not as safe or stable as it once was. We must train hard, demonstrate our potency and look after our people. It is the modern gunner that will deter, we have the capability to do so. Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt. Ubique Incoming Head of Regiment Brigadier Andrew Langford, AM Fellow Gunners I am deeply honoured to be able to serve the Royal Australian Artillery as your Head of Regiment, and it is with great humility that I accept the role. As the incoming HOR, I continue to remain impressed by your efforts as we undergo the most significant modernisation since the First World War. This transformation has seen the establishment of the 10th Brigade and the raising of the 14th Regiment. The Regiment has also seen the introduction of long-range fires through HIMARS, supported by GMLRS and PrSM; enhanced air and missile defence capabilities via NASAMS; and greatly improved intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance through the Integrator Tactical Uncrewed Aerial System. Furthermore, the delivery of the AS9 SelfPropelled Howitzer has markedly enhanced the lethality and survivability of the combined arms fighting system. Collectively, these capabilities have significantly strengthened Army’s role within the Integrated Force and its contribution to deterrence by denial. From my in-briefs and engagements to date, I am proud to say that across the nation, the gunner community remains strong. Serving gunners are motivated, professional, and adaptive to the challenges of the strategic environment. Our associations and affiliated entities continue to preserve our regimental identity and maintain enduring connections. As a community, we continue to support our veterans through the Appreciation of Service Certificate and lapel pin, awarded to gunners upon transition regardless of length of service – an initiative that has been exceptionally well received. Additionally, the RAA National Memorial upgrade has already raised $500,000 within 12 months and is scheduled to open in 2027, marking 50 years since the original memorial was established. This upgrade will better capture the service of gunners in Somalia, East Timor, Iraq, Afghanistan, on peace operations, domestic operations, and all our future campaigns. Alongside recognising our veterans, we continue to celebrate excellence among those currently serving across the Regiment. Congratulations to 4 Regiment, recipients of the Pagan Cup as the 2025 winners. I have also issued my first Order of the Day acknowledging 8/12 Regiment’s “Best by Test” result against their US counterparts in Hawaii. Additionally, we congratulate the Elvin Mattner winners on their forthcoming departure to the UK and recognise those nominated but not selected with Head of Regiment commendations.
