Citation THE MATTNER AWARD Lieutenant Edward William Mattner, MC, DCM, MM ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ARTILLERY GUNNER OF THE YEAR 2025 GUNNER NATHAN JAMES GABRIEL GUILLERMO 8TH/12TH REGIMENT ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ARTILLERY In recognition of your efforts, professionalism and dedication as a Gun Detachment member within 8/12 Regiment throughout 2025 you have been identified and awarded by the Head of Regiment, Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery as the 2025 RAA Gunner of the Year. Further to your excellent performance as a Gun Number your excellent linguistic skills as part of the Land Mobile Training Team Tagalog in Fort Magsaysay, Philippines required you to translate technical artillery training from Senior NonCommissioned Officers and Officers to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and counterparts. Despite not being formally trained in many of the concepts discussed, you were able to enable effective communication between instructors and their audience. The Training Team Leader relied heavily upon yourself to translate complex ideas concerning joint fires and effects planning to high-ranking Filipino Officers, a daunting task for a junior soldier. Through your exceptional grasp of Tagalog, and with a comprehension of artillery concepts well beyond your rank and experience, you enabled the team to communicate their lessons to the highest order with excellent outcomes. The Training Team's leadership observed your very effective integration with Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel, many of whom significantly outranked you and acknowledged the very strong trust between the training team and their audience, one that may have otherwise struggled without your efforts. Through your actions and professionalism you improved the reputation of 1 Brigade and Defence Cooperation Program - Philippines amongst their Filipino counterparts. Your ability to rally soldiers when needed is looked up to by younger soldiers and appreciated by your piers and Chain of Command with great appreciation. Your dedication in upholding the highest standards of soldierly conduct and personal integrity coupled with your selfdiscipline, dependability consistently sets the tone for professional behaviour among your peers. Your calm temperament under pressure and respectful approach to problem solving has earned you the confidence of both supervisors and Soldiers alike. CITIZEN GUNNER OF THE YEAR 2025 Gunner Jordan Raslan 9th Regiment, RAA For outstanding service and commitment as a member of 6/13 Battery RAA 9th Regiment Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery. GNR Jordan Raslan enlisted into the Australian Army in 25th January 2023 and was posted initially into the Adelaide University Regiment where he remained until he enter Kapooka in April 2023. After leaving Kapooka GNR Raslan posted into 9th Regiment RAA and promptly attended the Combat Arms Module (CAMs) at Simpsons Barracks before conducting the live fire element at Puckapunyal. On completion of his CAMS course GNR Raslan joined 6/13 Battery initially as an Artillery Light Gunner.
