RAA Liaison Letter – 2025 / 2026 Edition 89 Regiment’s Theatre Honour for Iraq, symbolising the enduring contribution of its members to past and present operations. These events not only honoured the Regiment’s legacy but also strengthened its identity as a modern, responsive and adaptable force. The year concluded with the Regiment’s first domestic operational deployment of the Integrator TUAS through Task Element Falcon on Operation Resolute. This deployment demonstrated the operational relevance of TUAS in supporting Australia’s border security mission and provided invaluable lessons for future employment in both domestic and expeditionary contexts. The achievements of 2025 reflect the professionalism, adaptability, and innovation of the soldiers and officers of the 20th Regiment, who have positioned the unit at the forefront of Army’s transformation, and ensured its continued role as a critical enabler of integrated operations. 2026 is set to be a year of consolidation, opportunity to test push the new capability forward, and prepare for future operations. Members of 20th Regiment RAA on parade to commemorate 100 years of Locating Artillery 131st Battery 131 Battery’s primary role for 2025 was support to Exercise Talisman Sabre 25, along with Force Modernisation and Test and Evaluation activities. Task Element (TE) Dragon, 20 Regiment’s contribution to Exercise Talisman Sabre 25, comprised 131 Battery with attachments from across the unit, as well as a small force element from the 1st Armoured Regiment. TE Dragon provided support across two distinct phases of the exercise; first to Headquarters 10 Brigade as Director of Practice for the Combined Joint Live Fire (CJLFX), and second, to Headquarters 1st (AS) Division during the field training exercise. TE Dragon also completed several Test and Evaluation serials as part of the project DEF129-3 Initial Operating Capability milestone. The CJLFX saw Integrator approved to operate inside range danger areas, enabling aerial observation of targets for several live fire serials. TE Dragon was the only capability available to DPRAC to provide observation for a HIMARS engagement onto Townsend Island, successfully recording fall of shot for the GMLRS fire mission (pictured). Aerial observation of several firing points, HIMARS reduced range practice rocket fire missions and multinational platforms such as the Japanese Chu-SAM were also provided through Integrator operations. TE Dragon provided aerial ISR and aviation effects in support of HQ 1 (AS) Div operations on the FTX. This activity provided the opportunity to demonstrate 20th Regt’s ability to employ Precision Guided Munitions. A small team from 1 Armoured Regiment was attached to 131 Battery and launched an OWL-B PLM using Integrator equipment, to strike an enemy target. The successful demonstration displayed a discrete force element capable of finding, fixing and finishing targets, seeking and striking, and using what could be organic 20 Regiment equipment and skills in future. The outcomes from Talisman Sabre 25 were overwhelmingly successful. Soldiers conducted 280 hours of live flight, providing valuable experience for operators and maintainers, and a multitude of lessons that will further the Regiment’s ability to seek and strike targets in the battlefield.
