RAA Liaison Letter – 2025 / 2026 Edition 72 4th Regiment RAA Lieutenant Colonel Simon Frewen 2025 Year in Review 2025 was a year of intense preparation for 4 Regiment as we continued to ready ourselves for war across all domains. Our training cycle followed the familiar progression from individual skills to small teams, then Battery, Regiment, and Brigade-level exercises culminating in support to the 3rd Armoured Brigade as it advanced toward its full potential as the Australian Army’s new Armoured Brigade. Key Achievements Armoured Capability Integration Supported the Brigade’s acceptance of the M2A2 tank and Armoured Engineering Vehicles, laying the foundation for the introduction of AS9 and AS10 Protected Mobile Fires in 2026. Exercise Shot Start Conducted under record-breaking Townsville rainfall, resulting in 66 vehicle recoveries. Exercise Shot Start – 106 Bty Gunners ram the bomb home in unfavourable conditions at TFTA following monsoonal downpour Provided realistic training aligned with our Primary Operating Environment and reinforced the importance of DP1 packing discipline as the weather became the enemy. Exercise Shot Start – Image captured shows the violence of the 155mm Howitzer’s nature during the night firing LFX component in TFTA. Exercise Chau Pha Employed a variety of technologies and strategies seen in Ukraine/Russia War, including, but not limited to; drone nets, radar, Keypad survivability moves, Urban gun deployments and the execution of subsurface gun positions. Exercise Brolga Run/EX Southern Jackaroo Delivered integrated fires with JGSDF and USMC gunlines, strengthening coalition interoperability, manoeuvring 4 x Gun C/S as part of 4 Regiments ORBAT.
