The Artillery collection was stored at Gaza Ridge Barracks after the closure of the North Fort Artillery Museum, and it’s wonderful to finally be able to co-locate the collection. This includes cleaning the textiles collection, cataloguing and storing our PAMs and manuals, identifying and housing our small objects collection and colocating the large weapons platforms. We anticipate the collection being wholly on-site and permanently housed and stored by the end of 2026. We are slowly beginning to take new acquisitions into the collection, pending the aforementioned co-location project. A collection of uniform and personal effects collected during 2008 Operation Herrick were gratefully received from a serving member and displayed in the Museum just ahead of the 14th of March 2026 open day and generated much interest. A full dress tunic belonging to Brigadier General Gwynydd Purves Wynne-Aubrey Meredith has recently been donated by members of his family. With a distinguished career spanning from before The Great War until the end of the Korean War, Brigadier General Meredith served as the first Commanding Officer of the School of Artillery at North Head, Commander of Coastal Defences of Western Australia, Commander of Coastal Defences New South Wales, and had a brief but memorable stint as the Officer in Command during the 1932 “Great Emu War”.
