In 2006, he posted to the 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a recruit instructor. Promoted to sergeant in early 2008, he became the marksmanship supervisor in the Marksmanship Training Section. He returned to the 16th Air Defence Regiment in 2009 as a troop sergeant, deploying to Afghanistan on Operation SLIPPER and contributing to the raising of the Australian Defence Forces Counter-Rocket, Artillery and Mortar capability.In 2010, WO1 Chivers was posted to the Ground Based Air Defence Wing at the School of Artillery as an instructor and was promoted to Warrant Officer Class Two in 2012, assuming the role of Sergeant Major Instructor Gunnery. During this time, he supported the development of the Australian Army’s Sense, Warn and Locate capability.In 2016, he posted to the Warrant Officer and Non‑Commissioned Officer Academy as an instructor on the Subject One for Warrant Officer Course. He returned to the now‑renamed 16th Air Land Regiment in 2018 as the Battery Sergeant Major of the 1st Air Ground Operations Battery, before posting back to the School of Artillery in 2020 as the Senior Sergeant Major Instructor Gunnery of the Air and Missile Defence Wing. He was promoted to Warrant Officer Class One later that year. In 2021, he returned to 16 Regiment as the Master Gunner. In 2024, WO1 Chivers was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, where he supported the introduction of the National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System, the transition of the Ground Based Air Defence workforce to new employment categories, and the Regiment’s move to the Darwin Lines at the Edinburgh Defence Precinct. He was appointed to his current role as the Regimental Sergeant Major of Adelaide University Regiment in 2026.WO1 Chivers is married to Harmony, and together they have four daughters: Serena, Tiali, Layla and Kaleah. He enjoys travelling and camping with his family, follows the National Rugby League, and is a passionate supporter of the Parramatta Eels.
