RAA Liaison Letter – 2025 / 2026 Edition 36 WARRANT OFFICER CLASS ONE THOMAS GRIEVE 14th Regiment RAA Warrant Officer Class One Grieve enlisted in the Australian Regular Army in Jan 2002. After completion of training, he posted to 8th/12th Medium Regiment as a Gunner in the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery. During his tenure at 8th/12th Medium Regiment he was promoted to Bombardier and also completed his Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Course. In 2006 he deployed to the Solomon Islands on Operation ANODE and in 2008 he deployed to Operation SLIPPER as the Combat Team JTAC within the 1st Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force. On his return from Afghanistan in 2009 Warrant Officer Grieve was posted to JTAC Troop as the acting Troop Sergeant and in 2010 was promoted to Sergeant. In 2010 he was awarded an Australia Day Medal for his work in 2009 as the acting Troop Commander of JTAC Troop. In 2012 he was awarded the Pathfinder Force Association (QLD) Trophy - JTAC, the first Australian Army winner, for his services to Joint Terminal Attack Controlling. In 2013 Warrant Officer Grieve was posted to the School of Artillery and worked with the New Equipment Training Team (NETT) and Joint Fires Wing. In 2015-16 he served in 53 Battery, where he performed the role of Battery Commander Assistant and Operations Sergeant. At the end of 2016 Warrant Officer Grieve was promoted to Warrant Officer Class Two and posted to 1st Regiment. In 2017 he performed the role of Battery Guide within 105th Battery and in 2018 he was appointed as the 1st Regiment Operations Warrant Officer and deployed to Iraq as part of the Training Task Unit as part of Operation TAJI-VIII. For his actions on Operation TAJIVIII he was awarded an Australian Defence Force Silver Commendation. In 2020 he was appointed as the Battery Sergeant Major of 104th Battery and in 2021 he deployed on Operations COVID-19 ASSIST where he performed the role of Company Sergeant Major of Task Element One within Task Unit One. In 2022 he was the Master Gunner of the 1st Regiment and at the end of 2022 was promoted to Warrant Officer Class One. At the start of 2023 Warrant Officer Grieve was posted to the Fires Formation Capability Implementation Team as the Master Gunner at RAAF Base Edinburgh. In 2024, the 10th Brigade was raised at RAAF Base Edinburgh and Warrant Officer Grieve was appointed as the inaugural Headquarters 10th Brigade Master Gunner, where he served for two years. In 2025 Warrant Officer Grieve was appointed as the inaugural Regimental Sergeant Major of 14th Regiment, RAA and has the pleasure of being part of the team that introduces the Long Range Fires capability into the Australian Army with the procurement of HIMARS. Warrant Officer Grieve is married to Belinda and has a daughter, Heidi. He is an avid cricket fan, watches all sports and enjoys fine dining and travel. WARRANT OFFICER CLASS ONE PETER HESKETH 16th Regiment RAA Warrant Officer Class One Peter Hesketh was born in Perth in 1979 and completed his education in Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted into the Australian Regular Army in August 1998 and was allocated to the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery as a Missile Number. On completion of his initial employment training at the School of Artillery, Warrant Officer Hesketh was posted to 16th Air Defence Regiment, Woodside. Warrant Officer Hesketh has served four postings at 16 Regiment. Within these, he has held the positions of Detachment Commander, Troop and Command Post Sergeant, Technical Warrant Officer and Battery Sergeant Major. Warrant Officer Hesketh’s instructional appointments have included Divisional Senior Non Commissioned Officer and Training Warrant Officer at the Australian Defence Force Academy over two postings separated by ten years and Small Group Instructor and Class
