RAA LIAISON LETTER- 2025 – 2026 EDITION CANNONBALL SUPPLEMENT 136 Sword Boxes - Story / Journey To mark the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Australian Artillery in 2021, the Regiment was presented two artillery ceremonial swords. The first was by the Captain General QEII and the second from the Regimental Master Gunner of St James Park on behalf of the Royal Artillery. The back story to these two very significant swords was published in RAA Liaison Letter 2022 - Queen Elizabeth II Banner Special Edition Page 57 As part of investigating commissioning two sword display boxes in 2024 the RMG (Warrant Officer Class One Tony Hortle OAM) floated the idea of using the wood from the banner box that had stored both the Kings Banner and QE II 1971 – 2021 for transit around the country. It was proposed that the external side of the timber would be exposed to show the travel the two banners had undertaken in more than a century. During this period the two banners’ have crisscrossed the nation in support of ceremonial events. The purpose and use of the box ceased when the replacement banner was belatedly presented due to COVID by the Governor General in 2022.
