Whilst the Gunner story has a long way to go including that of the modern Gunner … the journey has commenced. ANZAC Centennial Gun (ACG) My only disappointment from a personal perspective is the apparent failure to appreciate that the ANZAC Centennial 18 Pounder Gun is much more than a ‘Garden Gun’ to be used as a training aid to assist with the instructing young Gunner officers and soldiers on equipment principles and the evolution of artillery. It is my view that this painstakingly restored gun is a memorial to the service of all Gunners from World War One and subsequently and should be displayed indoors as part of the main interpretive collection alongside the recently retired Banner of the Late Queen Elizabeth II -1971 – 2021. In my opinion given the current harsh environment and way the ACG is displayed, politics aside it would have been better protected and appreciated by the broader public in the Artillery and Armoured Museum in Carins, where it was planned to be on loan.
