RAA Liaison Letter – 2024 / 2025 Edition 53 Fundamentals (Digital), which has seen a reduction of 40 training days down to 20, and the creation of an exportable ACSO Advanced course. This amendment now allows the School to increase the throughput of ACSOs into the RAA, whilst also reducing over-training for junior soldiers. This amendment forms part of a holistic enhancement to the ACSO Continuum, which will see more advanced training introduced into the curriculum at appropriate epochs. Trainees dig shellscrapes as part of Combat Behaviours training, Nov 2024 The final two major modifications to LMPs has included the enhancement of Regimental Officer Basic Course (Offensive Support), which will reduce overall duration on the course, allowing students to gain further experience on the job within Regiments, as well as put greater focus on developing the students’ ability to interpret and then execute off Joint Fires & Effects plans and products. Finally, the Forward Observer (FO) Continuum has undergone significant amendments in 2024, with the overall length of the Continuum reducing from 15 to 12 weeks, with a Phased Approach to Joint Fires Observer to be trialled in 2025. The integration of more deliberate and mission- critical Combat Behaviours into all JFW courses has been a highlight for the plethora of trainees and students across trades and ranks in 2025. Whilst in the field, both ECN 254 and ECN 162 trainees learned how to dig shellscrapes on the gunline, mortar course students occupied tactical firing positions and both RAA and RAInf officer courses planned and rehearsed camouflage and concealment of gunlines and mortar lines facing counter fires and sUAS threats. JFW is appreciative to both STA Wing, RDS Wing and 53 Battery for their continued support in both live-fire and tactical training throughout the year. As the year drew to a close, a number of JFW instructors were selected on merit and suitability to fulfil both training and operational roles within the imminent Protected Mobile Fires and Long Range Fires capabilities. These members will take on these roles at a sprint early in the new year.
