RAA Liaison Letter – 2024 / 2025 Edition 47 School of Artillery For the School, 2024 was a year marked by preparation for the wholesale revamping of training to realise Operational Fires and Targeting. Career courses have been refined, truncated, or re-imagined to meet the needs of the RAA of 2025 and beyond. Our focus has been the delivery of the Directed Training Requirement, the Introduction into Service of new capability, and the inculcation of Combat Behaviours into our new Gunners. There is much to report on, much to be proud of, and much more to come in 2025. The team from across the School has delivered good training and are doing their utmost to ‘shoot the Regiment’ towards its future. From here, the Wings relay their stories. Air and Missile Defence Wing Warrant Officer Class Two B Buik SSMIG AMDW The Air and Missile Defence Wing (AMDW) endured an up and down training year with low numbers being directly recruited to ECN 237. During 2024, the workplace segment review was enacted; Our numbers flourished due to the outstanding work from the team at STT/RDS. With their meticulous screening and selection processes for AMD suitability, we received an incredible intake exceeding the DTR requirements to close out 2024. The Regiment were very happy in receiving 40 IET’s in December. With the retirement of RBS 70 and redistribution of LMMR (and associated constituents), the AMDW executed the last of the ECN 237 IET training in order to posture for the future capability NASAMS being introduced in to service. Concurrently, the Staff in the Wing were engrossed with making extensive changes to the LMP’s from the analysis provided from LCF Puckapunyal, to position our workforce for future intakes. It is anticipated we will complete at least two IET courses during the 2025 calendar year. Our department are continuing to work toward the sustainment training commencing Q1 26. As mentioned earlier with the retirement of RBS 70, this saw the gifting of systems to Ukraine and an incredible opportunity for our Missile Number Training team to rally. Army Headquarters put forward a short notice task to generate and get ready the Australian Air Defence Artillery Training Team (AADATT), to deploy to Poland and train Ukrainian Air Defence soldiers in the Australian RBS 70 variant and the Type 2 RBS 70 Simulator. From the AMDW, this sawWarrant Officer Class Two A Smith, Sergeants T Rowe, S Pullen, Bombardiers J Fulham and S Oliver gather all of the applicable training needs to meet the mission intent from Army Headquarters.
