RAA Liaison Letter – 2024 / 2025 Edition 31 have two occasionally delightful children, Sam and Rachel. New Regimental Sergeant Majors WARRANT OFFICER CLASS ONE KAYNE FALCONER 4th Regiment RAA Warrant Officer Class One Kayne Falconer enlisted into the Australian Regular Army on 01 August 2000, into the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery. During his 24 years’ service, he has held a wide variety of domestic and international appointments within the Royal Regiment and wider Army. Promoted to Warrant Officer Class Two in 2014, Warrant Officer Falconer has been appointed as a Battery Guide, the Regimental Operations Warrant Officer, and a Battery Sergeant Major within 4th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. In January 2017 he was posted to the Royal School of Artillery, United Kingdom, as the exchange Sergeant Major Instructor Gunnery, providing bespoke artillery reconnaissance and manoeuvre instruction to a range of officers and soldiers within the Royal Artillery. Warrant Officer Falconer also assisted in the development and implementation of Royal Artillery doctrine as they modified their procedures and doctrine focusing on a more contemporary and tempo focused employment of their artillery systems, particularly self-propelled artillery. Operational experience includes deployments to East Timor in 2003, Afghanistan in 2010 and the Sinai Peninsula in 2024. While deployed to Afghanistan with the Australian led Artillery Training Team – Kabul, a coalition mission assisting in the establishment of the Afghanistan National Army School of Artillery, Warrant Officer Falconer was responsible for the development and implementation of doctrine and training packages that were delivered to Afghan Artillery trainees and Junior Non-Commissioned Officers, as well as integrating with USMC and US Army personnel and civilian contractors to guarantee delivery of effective training. This particular deployment allowed Warrant Officer Falconer to draw on his previous experience as an instructor in the all corps environments of Kapooka and the Royal Military College – Duntroon, and directly contribute to regional stability within a coalition environment. His previous WO1 appointment was as the Master Gunner New Equipment Training Team, providing guidance and advice in technical gunnery matters to his immediate chain of command, as well as providing the conduit between the School of Artillery and external organisations such as Army Headquarters, Capability and Sustainment Group or industry contractors within the sphere of introducing new equipment to the RAA. Warrant Officer Falconer is currently appointed as the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 4th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, an appointment he assumed in 2025. A fit soldier, who remains motivated to providing continued service to Army, Warrant Officer Falconer has a passion for advising, training and mentoring soldiers and officers with a view to making them, and subsequently Army, a better and more effective organisation. He is an enthusiastic, dedicated and professional soldier, who is excited in the development and introduction of innovative ideas and equipment, encouraging greater integration within a wider combined arms setting. Warrant Officer Falconer has been married to Zoe for the past 21 years and has two adult sons. He values highly the time spent with family and believes this results in a better balance as a professional soldier. Warrant Officer Falconer is an avid golfer, however, enjoys participating in, or watching, a wide range of sporting activities.
