RAA Liaison Letter – 2024 / 2025 Edition 29 LIEUTENANT COLONEL RAYMOND BRIN 9th Regiment RAA Lieutenant Colonel Brin entered the Royal Military College - Duntroon in 2007 and graduated to the Royal Australian Artillery posting to 20th Regiment in 2008. He has worked in a variety of appointments which have led him to assume command of 9th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. His Headquarters resides at Randwick Barracks, Sydney and he has a number of sub-units around Australia. In 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Brin posted as Battery Captain of 132nd Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Battery where he was responsible for coordinating the operational readiness requirements for Shadow Group 2; subsequently deploying with them during the period 2012 – 2013. During this deployment he integrated with Headquarters Combined Team Uruzgan (CTU). Lieutenant Colonel Brin returned from operations to assume the role of Adjutant 20th Regiment. This appointment provided broader and deeper experience in dealing with personnel issues stemming from an operationally high tempo unit. In his senior years as a Captain, Lieutenant Colonel Brin was posted to Headquarters 1st Brigade as the Plans Officer, planning formation level combined arms training. He views his time at the 1st Brigade as his most influential posting, working within a Reinforced Combat Brigade and working closely with the Marine Rotation Force – Darwin. Lieutenant Colonel Brin returned to 20th Regiment in 2017 as Battery Commander 132nd Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Battery. He had the privilege of leading soldiers through a full force generation cycle culminating in a deployment to Papua New Guinea as part of OP APEC Assist 18. His role as the BC of the tactical UAS detachment included engagement with the PNG Civil Aviation Safety Authority and work within the joint environment. This operation marked the first time the ADF had flown in non-military airspace since Afghanistan. In 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Brin deployed on OP OKRA as a US embed employed as the Director of Operations of the CENTCOM Partnered Integration Enterprise. This was a multi-national Full Motion Video analysis cell which housed both a training and operational component designed to improve the intelligence generated from Tactical UAVs flown in the theatres of Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. On completion of Staff College, Lieutenant Colonel Brin posted as the Staff Officer to Director General Land Operations, before promoting and posting as the Chief of Staff of HQ Australian Amphibious Force. As the Chief of Staff he deployed on Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2022 and 2023 which saw the deployment of an Amphibious Task Group across the North East Indian Ocean and South East Asia. More recently he was Staff Officer Grade 1 Joint Collective Training – Army, where he worked to support the development of Operations, Activities and Investments to support Army needs. Lieutenant Colonel Brin is married to Bronwyn. They have two children; Jonathan (12) and Theodore (8). He is an avid Rugby League fan, supporting the Canterbury Bulldogs and enjoys the odd game of basketball. LIEUTENANT COLONEL DUNCAN ANDERSON West Australian University Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Duncan Anderson entered the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1998 and graduated from the Royal Military College Duntroon in 2001. Allocated to the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery, LTCOL Anderson completed numerous regimental appointments in the 4th Field Regiment, 8th/12th Medium Regiment, 1st Field Regiment and 9th Regiment. LTCOL Anderson was selected for EXERCISE LONG LOOK and deployed to Iraq on two occasions as part of AL Muthanna Task Group 1 and Overwatch Battle Group 4.
