RAA L I A I SON L ETTER 2024 – 2025 E D I T I ON C ANNON BALL S UP PLEMENT 149 MAJGEN RS (Ross) Buchan AO (Retd) Recognised by his Perth School Prologue Major DT (Terry) Brennan The RAAHC and subsequently HOR staff were contacted in July 2024 by Wesley College located in South Perth Western Australia seeking a quality photograph of Major General Ross Buchan, AO (Retd). The college archivist explained that as a past student he was to be added to the College Gallery of Honour. This set off a series of events which ultimately saw a member of HOR staff visiting 1st Regiment to copy his portrait from the commanding officer’s gallery in the Regimental Headquarters. The next step was to locate a family member to attend the event. Unfortunately prior to the event no family member could be identified and contacted. (Editor Note: BRIG Warner located a daughter post the event) Consequently Wesley College thought it would be more meaningful for someone who knew him from a military perspective to accept the award on behalf of his family. Brigadier Gerry Warner AM, LVO (Retd) agreed to accept the request on behalf of the Buchan family. Wesley College Gallery of Honour Wesley College Staff Wesley College’s Gallery of Honour celebrates and honours the outstanding achievements and contributions made by Old Wesleyans in a diverse range of fields and areas of endeavour since the College’s founding in 1923. It is more than a celebration of individual success – it is testament to the values of courage, service, and excellence that shape the Wesley community. In 2024, a further eight extraordinary Old Collegians whose journeys reflect the very heart of Wesley’s motto, “By daring and by doing.” were inducted into the Gallery at a special ceremony. The evening celebrated the life of Major General Ross Buchan AO (46-53) whose military career spanned decades and saw him rise from a Royal Military College Duntroon cadetship to the Head of Australian History & Heritage Detachment Happy Hour
